Gunnerside

Gunnerside is a pretty village in Swaledale one of the most Northernmost dales and it has perhaps the wildest most unspoilt scenery of all the National Park.  It is very popular with walkers and cyclists and makes an ideal base to explore the dales.

It has one pub The Kings Head which serves good food and you will always receive a very warm welcome. As from December 2019 the pub is owned by the local community, The closest other pubs are The Punch Bowl Inn, Low Row (2 miles) or The Farmers Arms at Muker (3 miles), both of which can be recommended.
The Ghyllfoot Tea Room & Restaurant receives high praise for its scones and Sunday lunches.
On a Friday evening the Fish & Chip van calls at the village, these are always very popular so a good tip is to join the queue early.
The village still has a working Smithy now also a museum. The Smithy was established in 1795 at the bottom of Gunnerside Ghyll  and displays an interesting collection of objects from days gone by.
